Period

The night before last, we took a field trip and spent the night at a friend's house outside of Sacramento. Vivian had a crib to sleep in, but didn't go to bed til 11pm!

Last night, she cried and cried and cried. She would not sleep for anything. I let her cry and cry and finally I decided to give in and let her nurse. Well, maybe my milk is gone, but she simply pulled off and cried some more. I thought she was thirsty/hungry so I tried to feed her oatmeal, but she wouldn't have any. I gave her a sippy cup of water and that seemed to quell her a bit. I was still worried that something was really wrong. No tears were forming so I thought of dehydration.

After the water, I put her back down and she continued to cry, but not as blood curdling as before. I finally prayed to God to help me figure out what she needed and how I could help her, and she quieted right down and went to sleep!

This morning, I started my period. Could she sense it? Does the milk taste different? Or has it dried up? She definitely knows something was up.

Tsk, tsk

Vivian made her first deliberate act of copying me two days ago. Whenever I am feeding her, I make a tsk, tsk sound. She was on her changing table, and I was smiling at her and going, "Tsk, tsk" and she started doing it back to me, with a wide smile on her face!

She is still not crawling from point a to point b, but when I set her down on the floor, she is never in the same place as I sat her down when I come back a few minutes later. She LOVES to play with her sister. Sophie likes to lay across Vivian's lap so Vivian can hit and smack her! They both think it is hilarious.

On the Move

When I put Vivian down on the floor in a sitting up position to play with her toys, I go back to find her somewhere else, like a few feet away. She has laid down and scooted backward to get where she is going. She is also using the saucer or other objects to pull herself up and frequently gets stuck halfway up. She doesn't know how to get all the way up, or back down, so she cries out for help!

She prefers crunchy pretzels to spoon fed baby food. She really enjoys feeding herself. Her eye teeth poked thru a couple days ago.

When we do "A Little Flea Went Walking" she anticipates the tickle at the end and starts cracking up before it comes!

ready to crawl?

When Vivian sits and plays on the floor, she is crying out more than usual. This is because she is not content to just sit and play anymore. She now lurches forward to reach for toys all around her. Then she rocks back and forth like she is going to launch! When she gets into a position that is uncomfortable, she cries out for me and I have to put her back to a sitting position.

She tries to pull herself up on things, but the saucer is not the safest thing since the bottom is rounded. Once she was gripping the saucer with her hands, on her knees. She could not let go or the saucer would tilt and she'd fall - she was stuck and crying.

It won't be long now, my little smurfs.

Eye Teeth - 8 mos

Vivi's eye teeth are on their way - you can see the lil white bumps just below the surface of her gums, and she is biting on everything she can get to her mouth.
She got vomitous sick for the first time on Sunday - we went out to brunch, and while getting her out of her carseat, she was heaving reflexively. She threw up again inside the restaurant, so we quickly left. Her temperature cycled up and down all day, but was never higher than 100, although she felt hot to the touch.
She is also lurching herself forward from a sitting position to get to things she wants. Still not crawling, but that will be coming very soon.
She weighed 18lb 3 oz when I took her to a dr. visit last week.
