Fly

When we read the Very Busy Spider now, Viv points to the fly on each page and says "fly". She also noticed a butterfly on the curtains at Grandma's house yesterday and said "butterfly" (not very clearly). She made an attempt at saying "french fry" tonite. Her language is picking up more and more each day. She understands LOTS of things. She also says "Pum" for pumpkin when she wants her halloween candy!

She was very protective of her older sister yesterday. Ashton was trying to get on Sophie to play with her, and Vivian tried to rush in and pull Ashton off of Sophie! She did not like anyone getting into her sister's personal space.

And every morning, the first thing she says is "sizza" and points out the door to Sophie's room. This morning, when she saw Sophie, she waved and said "Hi-eee!".

Pum

The pumpkins they used for trick-or-treating are sitting up high on a buffet and Vivian has learned what delicious sugary treats, namely chocolate, lie inside. She comes into the office, points to them and says, "Pum!" Today, she carefully picked out the Kit Kat bars!

She was trying to get to an umbrella that I did not want her to have, so I took it away from her. Then she said, "I wannat!" It took me by surprise b/c I am not expecting her to speak in sentences at this point.

Tonight she was extra naughty. After I took her from the tub, dried her off, then took her to her room to pick out some pj's and diaper her, she ran from the room, back to the bathroom and jumped back in the tub with Sophie. Oh, and she gets very angry when I comb her hair in the bathtub as well. She cries out, "Owww-ooooh, owwwww-ooooooh!" and she hits me when I try to comb her hair. I leave brushing her teeth to Daddy.

Jumping

Vivian can jump off the ground with both feet at the same time and land without falling. Sophie could not do this until well after 2YO and Viv is only 17 months. The pediatrician said yesterday that it's very early for that. His 2YO still can not do it.

Vivian has also learned how to exclaim, "OOWWWWW" when something hurts, and she runs to me to kiss it. She loves to follow commands (sometimes) like, "Put this in the trash." She loves to put things in the trashcan and is quite pleased with herself when she does it successfully. She is also obsessed with bringing me different pieces of clothing, like Sophie's dress up clothes, esp. the fairy costumes or Sophie's bathing suit, to put on her.

She happens to be quite a clown, and really gets a kick out of doing silly things to make us laugh!

Tantrums

Vivian is displaying tantrums which Sophie NEVER had. She is very tenacious about something she wants. She is not easily distractable. Today we were at the park and it was pretty cold outside and we were going to head home and have a snack. Well, Vivian was obviously NOT ready to leave the park. She stamped her feet, screamed and plopped herself down on the basketball court as Sophie and I walked off with the stroller waving GoodBye to her. She just kept sitting there screaming.

Then I asked, "Do you want Yum Yum?" That stopped the tears and she ran over to us, but she still had a fit when I put her in the stroller, so I had to strap her in. She screeched and wailed for a good 4 minutes and it wasn't until we began singing Itsy Bitsy Spider that she finally quieted down.

Woe be unto the person who tries to get her to do something she does not want to.
